Acoustic engineering design is performance calculation and material design carried out with professional simulation software (ODEON, EASE, INSUL, SoundPLAN). One step beyond standard project preparation, it provides 95%+ accurate acoustic prediction for complex spaces.
What is acoustic engineering design?
Acoustic engineering design is an advanced service that, beyond standard project preparation, mathematically models a space's acoustic behaviour using professional simulation software. It is mandatory for concert halls, cinemas, professional studios and complex industrial facilities.
Software we use
ODEON Auditorium
The industry standard for room-acoustic simulation. Computes RT60, STI, EDT, C50, C80 and other acoustic parameters on a 3D room model. Critical for complex geometries — concert halls, theatres, churches, cinemas.
EASE
Combined loudspeaker design + room acoustics. Produces sound-distribution maps for stage and audience areas and optimises loudspeaker positions.
INSUL
Sound transmission loss (Rw, STC) calculation for building elements. Frequency-band performance prediction for multi-layer wall, floor and ceiling sections.
SoundPLAN / CadnaA
Environmental noise mapping. Shows the impact of motorway, factory and ambient sources on residential areas via 3D maps.
Design process
- Geometry modelling: the space is built in 3D in the software
- Surface material assignment: acoustic properties (NRC, scattering) per surface
- Source position: loudspeaker, stage, sound-source location
- Receiver points: audience / user positions
- Simulation: the software computes (can take hours)
- Result analysis: parameter maps
- Optimisation: design iteration to hit targets
Where is it mandatory?
- Concert halls (live music)
- Professional recording studios
- Multi-purpose event halls
- Theatres, opera houses
- Cinemas (especially Atmos / immersive)
- Hospital MRI / intensive care
- Shooting ranges
- Industrial sites (environmental noise mapping)
Deliverables
- Detailed simulation report (PDF)
- Parameter maps (RT60, STI 3D visualisation)
- Frequency-band performance table
- Build-up section drawings
- Material specification list
- Optimisation recommendations
Time and cost
Detailed engineering design 4-12 weeks. Investment scales with project scope; in practice the value created via correct design far exceeds construction-phase savings.
Certification
The design carries the engineer's signature, chamber-registered diploma number and licensed simulation-software validity.
