Suspended ceiling acoustic systems

Suspended ceiling acoustic systems — T-grid carrier + acoustic tile panels delivering NRC 0.55-0.90 absorption and CAC 35-44 dB room-to-room sound control.

TL;DR

Suspended ceiling acoustic systems are a modular ceiling build of acoustic tile panels seated in a T-profile grid. They deliver absorption in the NRC 0.55-0.90 range and room-to-room sound transmission reduction of CAC 35-44 dB. The standard ceiling solution in offices, hospitals, schools and retail — easy MEP access and lighting integration.

What is a suspended ceiling acoustic system?

A suspended ceiling acoustic system is a second ceiling layer built by hanging a T-profile grid from the structural slab and seating acoustic tile panels in the openings. It addresses both room acoustics (NRC) and room-to-room transmission reduction (CAC), and provides rich integration options for MEP, lighting and ventilation.

System components

  • T-grid carrier: 24 mm visible or 15 mm slim
  • Acoustic tile panels: mineral wool, fibre, cork or gypsum-based
  • Hangers and clips: standard 1.2 m spacing
  • Vibration isolation hangers (optional): for studios and sensitive areas
  • Edge profile (L or tegular): wall connection

Tile types

  • Mineral wool tile: NRC 0.60-0.90, the economic standard
  • Glass-wool-filled metal tile: industrial, kitchens
  • Cork / soft fibre: warm look, NRC 0.55-0.75
  • Perforated gypsum: NRC 0.40-0.65, decorative
  • Wood wool (Heraklith): NRC 0.60-0.80, natural aesthetic

Performance

  • NRC (absorption): 0.55-0.90
  • CAC (room-to-room): 35-44 dB
  • Plenum depth: 100-300 mm (200 mm recommended)
  • Fire class: A1/A2 (mineral tile), BS 476 Class 0

Where it is used

  • Offices, towers and call centres
  • Schools, universities, libraries
  • Hospitals and healthcare facilities
  • Stores, malls and retail
  • Restaurants and meeting rooms
  • Hotel lobbies and conference areas

How is it installed?

First the hanger points are marked from the slab; main carriers at 1.2 m centres, cross carriers at 0.6 m. Tiles are dropped into the grid openings. Critical: to preserve CAC the tile-to-grid junction and wall edge must be sealed; otherwise high tile absorption is undone by inter-room sound bleed.
